My clay project was one of my most, if not, the most successful. The topic of my sculpture was obviously Dunkin Donut munchkins. I think that this piece was my best because it just looks right. It is more precise and you can tell what it is. Also, it was a good idea for a project, unlike many of my other ideas. I think it turned out being my best piece because it was the project I enjoyed doing the most. It was fun, even though it was very repetitive for my circumstances, and I enjoyed coming up with different techniques to make each type of doughnut look as realistic as possible. Speaking of technique...yes, the techniques I chose to do majorly enhanced my project. For some, they looked better glazed. And i knew which ones before i did it (besides one of them, which I will get too). Obviously the plain glazed doughnuts were going to look better glazed. (DUH they are called glazed doughnuts for a reason). I knew I wanted the sprinkled doughnuts and the jelly filled doughnuts to be glazed because I wanted them to look different from the non-glazed ones. For the one doughnut type that was not glazed I used acrylic paint. I knew which one I wanted this to be before-hand as well. The powdered doughnuts. I did not want these to be glazed because when you look at a powdered doughnut it has a different kind of texture....it's powdery. So my initial idea was to just sponge white on it, but then someone suggested painting them a SUPER light grey color and then sponging the white on top of it. This showed a much better outcome and made it look even more realistic. When I was finished with these I realized that putting a little powdered sugar on the jelly filled doughnuts would help make them more realistic as well. Earlier i mentioned how i knew before-hand which ones would look better glazed...well the exception to that were the chocolate doughnuts. I glazed them the darkest brown that I could choose from, but when they were finished in the kiln, they were not dark enough. I did not like the way they came out at all. But because I thought of doing the sponging on the powdered doughnuts, it led me to doing the same on the chocolate ones, except with a dark brown obviously. I knew that it wouldn't look powdered because the color was so dark, so you wouldn't even be able to tell. It was able to give me a texture that made them look just like them though. So using different techniques for the certain types of doughnuts enhanced them by making them look pretty dang realistic. The size enhanced the doughnuts in the same way. I had to do the exact size of actual Munchkins in order to make them look as realistic as possible.
