In class we had to paint a fourth of a random painting given to us by Ms. Rossi. At first when i was painting it, i had no clue what it was, but then eventually i was able to tell that it was part of a shell. I did enjoy doing this mini project because it allowed me to practice brush strokes and learn how to mix colors before I did my final project.
We Collaborate: I was able to get some ideas from my peers on how I should create the white powdered doughnuts. I knew that I did not just want to glaze them because that wouldn't create the texture that I wanted for them. So I decided on acrylics and planned to paint them all white and then sponge white on top of them, but after trying that out it looked okay, but I felt like it was difficult to tell the texture was there because it was white on white. Fortunately someone suggested that I paint the doughnuts a SUPER light grey and then sponge the white on top of them. This idea ended up being much more successful and they looked more realistic. Also, I had already glazed the chocolate doughnuts but they did not look dark enough. So I sponged a very dark acrylic paint on top of the lighter glaze. I Solve Problems: During this process there were a few moments where I needed to figure out a new way to do something or had to fix some things. The sprinkles on the doughnuts were by far my biggest struggle. At first I made tiny little balls and stuck them on one by one, but they ended up looking too big, so I had to come up with a new way to get them on and to get them to stick. After taking all of the too big sprinkles off I made even smaller ones, and tried putting them on, but struggling to keep them sticking. So finally I ended up laying out the tiny little balls, spraying them with water, and then rolling the doughnuts around in the "sprinkles." Another struggle I was able to overcome was (again with the sprinkles) painting all the little sprinkles. It was a very long process and it was difficult to get the whole sprinkle. Its appropriate to say the sprinkles doughnuts were very time consuming. I Create Original Art: I did in fact have a source of inspiration. When Mrs. Rossi was showing us pictures of other students clay sculptures I really liked how a lot of them added things that they bought to them to make them look more realistic. I was able to come up with the idea of doing munchkin doughnuts and was able to incorporate an actual munchkin box from Dunkin Donuts. An example that Ms. Rossi had showed us was a regular doughnuts in a box. I figured and noticed that a lot of people were gonna choose to do this and I liked the idea, but wanted to make it more my own, so I kept with the doughnut idea and made them little munchkins so that it was more my own. I also didn't just want to put them in the box. I wanted to make them a little more unique, so thats where the idea of having them almost falling out of the box or just kind of laying half in, half out of it. |
