I Take Risks:
I have never used oil pastels other than just messing around with them, so I was kind of hesitant to use them. It took me a lot of going back and forth in deciding what medium I wanted to use, mainly because I'm not really familiar with many of these mediums at all. I have used colored pencil in the past and that was one of the ideas I had of using, but I thought it would be better if I tried something new. So I chose oil pastels and I did a sketch of it on a smaller piece of paper to see if it was what I really wanted to do. At first I wasn't really sure how I felt about the way it was turning out, but as I got into it and kept blending colors I started to enjoy the process more and the way it was looking. I'm glad I decided to stick with it and practice my skills using a new medium.
We Collaborate:
I used my peers a lot during this project, mostly because I'm not used to oil pastel and was unsure if I was using them correctly. They were able to give me a lot of tips to how I could better my piece. Mia told me to fade on the inside of the petals this way it would look like they were separated more and so it would look more realistic. Other people at that table helped me decide the background color and where I should lighten things up etc. Ms. Rossi was able to help me also. She told me to add highlights and to darken up the inside of the petals as well. Having people to constructively criticize my work allows me to get better and improve any of my art skills.
I Reflect:
I stepped back and analyzed my work many times throughout this project. I mostly did it when I didn't like the way it was looking or when I made minor mistakes. When I made minor mistakes it was easier to get through because I would just fix the rest of the flower or petal according to the mistake. When I didn't like the way it was turning out I got frustrated because of my un-familiarness to knowing what oil pastel pieces are supposed to look like. If i didn't like it I would make the decision to either take a little break for a few minutes this way I could find a way to fix it to where I would like it or I would just continue go on with it knowing that it would get better as I went.
